Did you know that most laptop batteries are only rated to last 1 to 2 years?
That is right! No issue how well you take care of your laptop, eventually it will need a new battery. Even if your laptop is more than two years old, your battery may still be perfect.
So, how do you know if you need to get a professional to replace your laptop battery?
Well, below we list a few of the main reasons you’ll need a new laptop battery.
Failing to charge
Your laptop battery failing to charge when plugged in could be a sign that it needs changing. There are a few other things that could be the reason for this that you may look into first:
If you are plugged into a surge protector or UPS and it is an issue then it could be a problem rather than your laptop battery. Plug directly into the wall to get rid of the variable of faulty power strip or other gadgets.
If you have an external battery, remove it using the fast release on the bottom of your laptop and check to have the link is working. Check for dust build-up wipe clean with a dry soft cloth. Then put the battery back in, making sure that it fits in securely and that contacts are linking.
Short run time and shutdowns
Normally, you should get about six hours run time out of a completely charged laptop battery.
There are things that have an effect on how long your battery will work. Display brightness, how many programs have started, and whether you are listing to audio or watching a video all affect battery work time.
Doing a lot at once will cause your laptop to use more power and the battery will run out sooner. Anyway, if you see that you only get a half an hour or less off of a complete charge, there is an issue.
If your PC shut off without warning, this could be a sign of a bad battery. Through faulty batteries are not the just thing that can cause laptop crashes, the sudden loss of power is actually an indication you should take a closer look at your battery.
Overheating
A little bit of increased heat is very general when the battery is running. Your laptop has fans and heats sinks to manage and dispel the excess heat. When the battery is dying, your PC can begin working harder and this generates more heat and your fans cannot keep up.
You may see your laptop getting noisy as the fans work overtime to attempt to chill it down. If you notice a loud fan noise, gently feel the bottom of your laptop and see if it feels warm to the touch. Slightly hot is general but your laptop should not burn your lap.
If you see that your laptop is running warmer, then it may be a sign that your battery is on its way out. If you see your computer is warm to the touch, shutdown and unplug your computer fast to reject any further damage.
